Scope and Functions of the FAVC

 

The core task of the Commission as directed by the Fiji Islands Audio Visual Commission (FIAVC) Act of 2002 is to “Promote and Develop the Audio Visual Industry in the Fiji Islands”. In this regard the definition of Audio Visual operational within the Commission covers:

 

Film, TV, Video, Music, I T Software and E-Commerce, Studio City Zones, Telecommunications, Call Centres and Back Office Operations. In relation to these activities the role of the FAVC is to:

  • Develop and promote Fiji’s audio visual industry locally and internationally
  • Administer the various tax incentives
  • Provide Film Location Services
  • Set up an Audio Visual School
  • Be a one stop shop for the Industry
  • Build a new Industry and broaden Fiji’s economic base
  • Ensure that there is an effective communication system in place for all stakeholders including Government

Composition of the Commission

 

The members of the Board of the Fiji Islands Audio Visual Commission are appointed Under Section 4 of the FIAVC Act, by the Minister for Commerce, Industry, Investment and Communications.

 

The current members of the Commission were appointed for a period of three years commencing 3rd April, 2007. 

 

Mr Richard Broadbridge

Chairperson

 

Mr Broadbridge started his career in 1993 as a journalist with the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited.  In 1994 he joined Fiji TV as a cadet reporter and was the first local reporter with Fiji One News. He left Fiji TV in 2005 as Head of Current Affairs   to start his own production company. Mr Broadbridge is currently the founder and owner of  Skylite Productions (Fiji) Ltd . In addition he works as media consultant for several organizations

 

 

 

 

Mr Chris Caine

Deputy Chairperson

Mr Caine , a businessman started his IMDVD business in 1999.  Mr Caine is President of the Fiji Audio Visual Industry Association (FAVIA). One of the prime objectives of the Association is to ensure enforcement of the copyright legislation.
